When did you start listening to Heavy Metal?

But if it's, jeez I hate to say it but, 'Abba' then that sucks.

I meant Vivaldi, Bizet, Dvorak etc.
They're not better or worse than metal. It's good in a different way.

My stepbrother got me into metal a few years ago (thank god. Can you believe I used to like rap and pop? )

The first songs I heard were from, like, Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Slipknot (but they're too commercial, and I don't like them all that much for it) I don't remember the song names, though.

I totally agree. But some Rockbands are good too!

I got into Metal like roughly 4.5 years ago
I was like 12 years old
I wasn't exposed to alot of metal in my early age

The first Metal songs I heard:

I think I started listening to Metal... when dinosaurs roamed the land; but seriously I think I started sticking to it was around five years ago. It feels like so long ago but my first bands/songs were

Nightwish- wish I had an angel
Slipknot- My plague
Papa Roach
Ozzy - paranoid
and there's probably a few others but I can't remember. Like I said "when Dinosaurs roamed the land"

Well I was into Metallica about 4 years ago and then about 2 and a half years ago I discovered Pandora radio and explored from Metallica, and I found Hammerfall.

My very first song that truly got me into metal was Hammerfall - Hammerfall. What a song that was, I was completely not used to the singing or the awesomeness of the riffs and especially that they were not from America. I loved it. Thus, metal engulfed my life.

for me i used to like johnny cash and stuff, then moved onto light rock (elvis, beetles etc), then hard rock (muse, queen, etc), then a few power metal songs such as the first one i ever heard Black Diamond by Stratovarius, then a bunch of Hammerfall and Dragonforce....after a while i was only able to listen to power metal xD I'm addicted to it, the energy, the melody, the power....just something about it moves me like no other music

although Stratovarius/Hammerfall/Dragonforce (before guitar hero) got me into power metal, what triggered the full-on obsession was Sonata Arctica.....after songs like The Cage, Blank File, 8th Commandment, and others I couldn't bear music that wasn't power metal (aside from a handful of exceptions ;D) - this is probably the main reason why Unia pissed me off so much, lol - i can't stand fully progressive metal ;( dunno why

anyway, that;'s my uneventful story....though many of you guys should feel lucky you discovered it before the age i did....i heard Black Diamond when i was like 20 years old. although being before the guitar hero dragonforce powermetal surge, it makes me feel at least a little old school =p

It's just "Where Dragons Rule", no land.

First metal song I heard was age 2.
Slayer's "Postmortem"

At age 5 I bought "Orchid" on a whim, because the picture looked pretty.
I never knew it was a progressive death metal album, but I started to like it.
So, i've been a metalhead pretty much me whole life.

I was about 4 or 5 i was over at cousin's house and he played Black Sabbath-Iron Man for me.Ever since that day I've been METAL

I was never really into music when I was younger. My folks listen to a bit of country and a bit of light light rock. The only thing I ever liked of their music was Styx. Haha I still have their greatest hits cassette. When I was in fifth/sixth grade, one friend got me listening to Korn, Metallica, Slipknot, ect. I've always been into computers, so even before file sharing became big I got as many songs as I could off teh interwebz. Then just went with suggestions and such. As technology progressed I got entire CDs, then discographies of every band I came across. I'm not positive, but I *THINK* the first power metal song I heard was just after Guitar Hero II came out. I was working at Winn-Dixe (A supermarket) and was friends with one of the stokers. We both loved games and metal, and he said that he was part of a forum that were trying their best to get a band called DragonForce in the upcoming GH3. (I swear I'm not making that up.) So, we went out to his car, and he played one of their songs. I don't know which it was, but I didn't fall in love. I knew they had talent, but couldn't get over the fact that the vocals sounded like a cat being raped. (With no lube to boot!) Shortly there after, my friend (Same one that got me into metal, actually.) got into Amon Amarth, Nightwish and Arch Enemy. So, I started looking for similar bands....Because I'm all about (Well, about 75-80%) lyrics, I like to understand the vocals. So while I eventually got into those bands, I looked for something that kept the symphonic part, but was a bit cleaner. And found........Nightfall In Middle Earth. [Que angelic choir here.] By the next day, I had Blind Guardian's discography + Imaginations Through The Looking Glass. (CD version and video.) By the end of the week, I had all of Demons & Wizards and Iced Earth.

It was... When I was 14... Or 13, I don't remember... Yeah, been a while now ^_^ I feel like that was 20 years ago...

But yeah, I started with some Metallica songs, but nothing much, really, then one day, I listened to "Aces High", and I was hooked into metal since then, haven't got those headphones off my head for more than 10 hours in the last 5 years ^_^

1st metal song I ever heard was Master Of Puppets when I was 9 years old and I've been a metal fan from since. Nowadays I don't listen very much trash metal like Metallica but power metal and melodic death metal.

I'm not sure the first metal song I heard, probably Metallica or something.
I got into metal a little in 2006/7, but started listening to about nothing but metal in 2008.

Although, long before i started listening to alot of metal, i did have gamma Ray's cover of It's a Sin in my music collection :O i just remember that xD
