Music, way back in ancient times was used to tell stories, which is exactly what most Iron Maiden songs do.
On top of that, Iron Maiden is some of the best sounding music ever written. So what could be better???

what song is your favourite? mine is probably Run To The Hills. That is a classic. The Number Of The Beast and The Trooper are awesome too, but my favourite, Run To The Hills!

Seriously, Iron Maiden were the first Metal band to truly explore the epic Power Metal fantasy themes. You had Sabbath exploring a little and Priest too but never until Maiden came along had it been explored in this kind of depth.

Take the album Powerslave for example, 1984, before Power Metal existed, (It was created by Helloween in 1985 officially and if anyone wants to argue, we can lolz).

Listen to "Aces High", great example of something that IS power metal, how about "The Duelists" "Powerslave" & "Rime of the Ancient Mariner"? They're all very much power metal songs. All exploring the fantasy themes.


Kai Hansen and Helloween based their original sound on Maiden in the "Walls of Jericho" album (First official Power Metal album).
You can tell there are maiden influences in songs like "Victim of Fate", "Judas", "Ride the Sky" and "Metal Invaders".
And how about Bruce Dickinson's Air raid Siren esque vocals? Also an influence on Power Metal.

This is what makes them the founding fathers of Power Metal and a lot more, i can tell you, i'm willing to argue for maiden on this one.

The may have taken from aspects of the Power Metal genre, but they are truely Heavy Metal. Simple.

No, they're Power Metal, They sound closer to Helloween than they do to Sabbath and Priest, that makes them more Power Metal than Heavy Metal, though the term wasn't created till 1985, Maiden still created it by their sound.

I agree with Metalhead. They sound a lot like other power metal bands in their time. And if you take ACDC for standard heavy metal they're rather power metal.

anyways who cares. as long as they are good i dont really care for the type of music they play. of course they are not pure power metal and in the wikipedia site they are said to be a heavy metal band and thats what matters to me.

Hey thanks i just saw the youtube channel advertised then joined the forum, i didnt know if there was an age limit so i made myself 35 ima ctualy 13 :P goin to see dragonforce tonight!

Ya dissection is one of my favs, sweedish black metal ftw, but you know i like all metal, iron maiden, cannibal corpse, slipknot, iced earth, black death power speed heavy, metal is the music of the gods!
