They're straight up power metal - with very light folk influence.
Maybe someone could merge your post into the other one.
Or maybe you're afraid to post in the power metal section as only 3 members of this forum actively post there ;P
In that case it's understandable ;p

Turisas, Power Metal? No way. They're pure folk with some viking elements.
Anyway, Turisas are awesome, can't wait to see them live.

you guys use lyrics too much to judge metal, their music style without lyrics is truly symphonic power metal ;p

You put folk metal into any band that recreates a folk sound with any instrument of choice. So calling that, Turisas has a symphonic folk power metal sound. That's just me. They have some power metal elements, their use of keyboards courtesy of Nygård is symphonic at that, and their inclusion of an accordion and an electric violin player, as well as creating riffs that are based off of classic folk scales and traditional folk music, gives it the folk metal title.

I actually don't agree. Listen up Cursed Be Iron for example. I wouldn't call that Power Metal. It still rocks though.

I have to agree with everyone else... Even without lyrics, it's still not power metal... Miklagard Overture, Cursed be Iron, The Dnieper Rapids, As Torches Rise... I could name more...
I love them tho!

I've changed my mind since, after listening to Turisas more- BUT, as a point of pride, i still call them 'folk power metal' ;D

I'm sure I've mentioned this elsewhere, but at the risk of repetition......These guys are AMAZING live. Defiantly go see them if you get the chance. I was going to try and post some videos of them acting out battles on stage (while playing) but Youtube is angry with me at the moment, so that will have to wait.

I second that, they are beasts live, and when they came here last time in Montreal, a few fans had dressed like them and jumped on stage, and while the security was trying to grab their legs to trow them off, Mathias Nygård started moshing around with them and battling... Very funny! And I helped one of those dudes jump on stage *proud* ^_^
Damnit, you don't see the moshing in the video, the guy was too slow to start filming... but I remember!
