One thing I've noticed, especially with music, is people don't like and won't accept change. And it pisses me off.
Say if a power metal band were to change their line-up with a new guitarist and vocalist, but still stayed power metal, and were still good, fanboys who have been following that band for awhile won't accept the change, because they liked the old people. And even if the new vocalist is good, they'll go on saying he sucks just because he replaced the old one and isn't the same.
A good example of this would be Helloween. People liked Michael Kiske, but when Andi Deris took his place it was an automatic "Andi Deris sucks!" blah blah. Andi Deris is actually pretty awesome. Michael Kiske is the best singer ever, his voice is orgasmic, and sure that'd be nice if he stayed in the band, but Andi Deris is good too. Andi Deris has a unique voice, that can be dark and light, with a wide vocal range. He is awesome too dammit.
Helloween is still awesome. [/endrant]

Nightwish anyone?
It's because the majority of people, yes, even in the metalhead community, are close-minded. I for one am thankful I have the higher advantage to find positive attributes in most forms of music, instrumentalists, vocalists, etc.

I can really understand why people do it. They get so used to a band, then next time they look, seeing new members, they are first intimidated. In the end, they should see if they still enjoy their music before they won't accept it.

It's okay to be intimidated, but people still have to give the new style/member a chance and look at the bands new style/member and see if they're any good, and be open minded about it, instead of just whining about the band changing and not listening to it, or hearing it but think it automatically sucks because it's different now.

line-up changes aren't nearly as serious as style changes.
Tarja to Annette in Nightwish I got used to, and enjoy both.
Sonata Arctica's drastic style change really turned me off on them, haven't listened to Unia since the first few times i attempted to listen to it ;p

i think it happens the same with me. when anette joined the band i really got pissed but its a waste that we wont listen to all these amazing songs in the future. anette doesnt fit in nightwish and she needs a big improvement before she can compete with Tarja

If DragonForce had one change in their line-up I think it would change the band completely.

true. all of them play extremely fast and i cant imagine DF without ZP-Theart's voice. the only guy i think i wouldnt notice if he leaved DF is the bassist (i cant recall the name).

See, that's the point. You're using comparisons to make a judgment in music. I didn't judge new Nightwish and compare it to Old Nightwish, I took new Nightwishs for exactly what it was, a NEW Nightwish. I enjoyed the music a LOT, Dark Passion Play has risen to my number 2 favorite Nightwish album of all time, and my number 10 favorite album of all time. Naturally I liked Tarja more, but you can close your head to so much if you listen to a piece of music with the mindset that "It would've been better with (insert name here)"

you guys are right but i really admired Tarja in the past for her voice and her unique appearance on stage. I just cant accept that Anette got her place. she can't even be compared with Tarja and thats what ill continue believing until i see some improvement with her voice. For me Tarja was the whole band back then

Yes, I've heard TONS of other female metal vocalists in relatively unknown bands with better pipes than Annette actually (Forgotten Tales, Oratory, Amberian Dawn, Tacere, Delain, Lunatica, etc, etc).
All in all, I'd actually like to see Marco Hietala take the mic, permanently

his voice gives me the chills!! Hietala has talent as a singer. by the way there are rumours that simone simons and amy lee were about to join Nightwish in Tarja's place but i cant remember where i read/heard it

Think I enjoyed Bye Bye Beautiful the most, even if the video for it made no sense But yeah, DPP is a very interesting album, and Nightwish is a good band, even without Tarja.
