Their genre in my opinion, can't be defined. They have a different sound every album. I guess that's what makes them Progressive. But i don't think they're really power. Maybe some stuff on the "six degrees of inner turbulence" album.

I dont really like the fact they change every album. and Petrucci isnt exactly my favourite guitarist. but still, I have heard some songs and they are okay, but i dont hate them.

I quite like them...
they are more on the progressive metal side tbh, and Mike Portnoy is one hell of a good drummer...
