This band was in the "Bands You Dislike" section, so I decided to put them in the "Other Bands You Like" section aswell.

I'm with you, I don't really care for them either way. They don't suck, but they aren't particularly interesting to me.

Well listen to Sons Of Plunder, Prayer and I'm Alive. I don't love those tracks, but they are good. Do not compare Disturbed to real metal bands

*AHEM* "Real metal"? What exactly would you call them? Too hard for rock. And I don't think rap, country, opera, ect. would fit. They are, by definition, metal. (Heavy metal, to be precise.)
Anywho.....They're not my all time favorite, or anything, but I like 'em. Especially their first album. (The Sickness)

Nü-Metal would be it. Sounds like a mix of Hip-Hop, Punk and Rock. This is why many people consider bands like Slipknot, Disturbed and SOAD like false metal. Why is Nü-metal called Nü-"METAL"? The Media, I guess. They probably thought it was a new wave of metal because of the aggressivity.
I kinda enjoy some songs of Disturbed, but a full album bores me.

Okay okay....So I wasn't the best at labeling sub genres. Still though. Metal is metal. There is no "true" or "false" metal.
And for the record, I seriously hope that no one here thinks poorly of System of a Down....Come on! Toxicity is one of the best metal albums ever. (Not THE best, but defiantly a contender.)

Okay okay, lets be precise then, it is metal, but I will listen to better ones like Kamelot and Blind Guardian more likely... Some songs are good and some songs are not. The Sickness is a good album. But for example A Twist In The Myth is real metal for me.

I don't know about you, persay, but alot of people here bitch about people saying DragonForce isn't "real metal". Which is stupid. It might not be the kind of metal you're used to and/or like, but you can't deny the fact that it's metal. This is just the opposite side of the spectrum. It seems you like more power metal. Which is fine. (I mean this IS a power metal forum, after all!) but you've got to acknowledge the fact that metal is a very wide genre. There might be alot of sub genres, and you might not like them all, but in the end they all fall under metal.
Anywho, welcome to the forum! heh

I am not denying that it is metal, I am speaking all for my opinion. For me it is something between heavy metal and hard rock. Dragonforce is metal, only bad things I can find from it 1) Not good live 2) too much shredding 3) uses same riff in almost all songs. DF is a very good band excepting those flaws. (I know, this is a Disturbed forum ;D) Disturbed is metal but I count the more likely to hard rock. It depends what album you listen to.

well, seeing as rock/hard rock/metal all use similar instruments - the distinctions must be opinion based. and as for opinion, the majority rules. many people debate whether disturbed is hard rock or metal; but seeing as a majority of people (at least on last.fm) label them as nu-metal....then it's nu-metal as far as i'm concerned.
i've heard a handful of disturbed songs i didnt mind listening too, they're not annoying in the least; but definitely over-hyped.
i'll never be part of that 'real metal' crowd as i listen to some power metal bands that 'real metal' fans generally label as 'gay metal' (Freedom Call, etc). and seriously, if it uses metal instruments, it's technically 'real metal' as it exists, thus being 'real'.
dragonforce is fun btw, but you got to not take the metal scene too seriously to enjoy them. people who take metal music too seriously need to submit themselves to a mental ward, because it's just music for fuck sake. this applies to anyone, no matter what band(s) they whore, or what particular metal 'scene' they believe they belong to.....
listen to the music and have fun damnit!

Ok using words "real metal" was a little overacted, but it was the first thing in my mind... Freedom Call rules. All metal rules.
